Is Windows Defende not as good as the free Bit Defender for Windows 8?

Microsoft's Security Essentials Anti Virus is incorporated in Windows Defender when you install Windows 8. I've been using it since it was released, it has proved effective,(Had no viruses), it's free of charge and more important, free from annoying pop-ups trying to sell you other products or re-licencing fees.
