My Samsung R518 laptop shuts down before booting up.The moment it switches off I press the power button again,it again powers up but shuts down suddenly before booting completes. After repeated attempts it boots, and shuts itself down again.Next time I try switching it on(immediately after the last auto-power off), it boots and this time it doesn't create any problem and works just fine for hours.. This first started with my Linux Mint and Windows 7,so I formatted and installed Windows XP. Yet the problem persists. But it boots up in the very first attempt if I use Safe Mode.I can't seem to identify the cause. :-( Please help..

It could be a loose heatsink, causing the CPU to shut down before it melts. If (and when) you get your laptop running stable for a little bit run CoreTemp. If it goes anywhere near 90C under a light load, you should probably have a tech take a look at it for you.

Ran CoreTemp, readings are- Low: around 55-60C and high: around 78-80C for both cores on a 5-14% load. I'll try to check whether the heat sink is fastened properly in a couple of days, thank u:) I was wondering why the problem absolutely disappears in Safe mode..Is it just because Safe mode is keeping processor activity lower??
