I want to use a wireless network card on a new build to avoid long cables passing through kids bedrooms. However, the Asus M5A99FX Rev 2.0 M/B I was looking at might have an issue relating to the use of an ASUS Radeon R9 270X blocking the fitting of a network card in the single slot.-The Asus M5A99X M/B has two slots. Would this be a better choice? If yes, are there any downsides? The PC would be used for gaming (not at a competitive level) and school work.

Depending on motherboard for PCI-e lane speeds (need specs). If the slot is blocked you can use a USB network adapter, they are similar cost and work just as good as a PCI one.

I see that Asus offer the PCE-N53 and the USB-N53. Would both provide equal connectivity (signal strength)?
