Phillip Corcoran :
You can't simply "move" applications to another drive because of the Registry entries you referred to, so the said applications must be re-installed.
However, it makes no sense to install applications to a RAMdrive because the contents of a RAMdrive, just like any RAM data, is volatile and will disappear whenever the PC is switched off or it crashes for whatever reason.
Unless you have a PC which never crashes and you never turn it off (even then you can't stop power cuts).
Hey Phillip,
TY for answering my question. I do know that Ramdata is volatile and will disappear upon shutdown...or more of a power outage. Although the RamDisk Prog that I purchased, gives you the option to store your completed media , or image file on a non-system drive. It also reloads when windows restarts meaning you do have a radio button you can check......To Load Disc Image at Startup . Also........Save Disc image at shutdown.
But you are definitely correct, if you have power loss b4 saving the image you will lose it. I do have a 1600 watt backup battery supply/surge protector, which gives me about an hour (at full battery load) , to save my work b4 I shut down..
So I totally agree with you that some things aren't worth putting on a Ramdrive. I know it's old school tech, but this new Mobo I just purchased has Ramdisk built into the board. It has quad channel Ram and it will give you the option to use 80% of Ram not being used by your system. Awsome Board!!!
It's the Asus X79 LGA 2011 Rampage IV Black Edition Mobo. http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_BLACK_EDITION/
I threw the link in there so u can check it out. I'm not sure exactly how the RamDisk on that mobo works yet ( still Building it). But rite now I'm using Dataram 16 gig version of their program. It was cheap $10 Dollars US.
So you do have the chance to save things if your setup correctly, as well as having the options that progs like this one give you. http://www.dataram.com/
Check out that prog. They give you 4 free gig version so you can c the options you are given , the ones I just mentioned.
So It's gonna B great to put games, audio & video production progs on the Ramdrive.
But I agree with you that if it's that important, don't put it on a RamDrive.
Thanks Phillip,
I hope you check out them links to c the options you have now using a RamDisk.
If you would like ,when I finish my build, i'll post some pic's for you to check it out . Also I'll have more knowledge on how the Ramdrive works on this new Mobo, and I can let you know the options you have saving and storing images with it.
Like I said, check out that Dataram Prog, you get 4 free gigs, then u have to buy a license, but it's reasonably priced!
Cheers,
Lefty/Joe
