I want to get one card now and a few years later when better performance is required get another one, which card would be better for this? I will be mostly gaming on a 1920x1200 monitor.

Some people say that they get micro stutter with 2 780s and that getting another one isn't worth it, and on the 290s this is worse.

So I could get a Z87-G43 Gaming and an XFX 750W instead of the Z87-G45 Gaming and the XFX 850W which I was going to get and save some money and later I could get some card in the future. What do you think I should do?

In England the 780 Ti is £600, R9 290 is £380

My apologies, I guess I misread. If you are serious about going with dual cards, definitely get the 780. The prices should come down soon with the release of the next gen Nvidia GPU's coming any time now, and the price of AMD GPU's has done nothing but gone up due to bitcoin miners. The AMD cards also have a lot of heat issues, which could make cooling more of a problem.
