Ok I have an external hard disk from segate with a power adapter. I used to store my all the imp data in this one as it has the storage capacity of a tb. Was working fine for quite sometime until recently when I was watching a video it suddenly froze and then the drive stopped. I restrted my PC and it was showing the drive but taking too much time to read the data. Then after a while it stopped even showing the drive icon in my PC.Its showing in device manager under disk tab but not readable.

I want to first know how to make readable first and then get back all the data Please help I have lost my mind trying to fix it.

Thanks for the reply I am trying to do that and have already downloaded linux op sys and tried to install it on my flash drive but then I encountered the error your operating sys is not 64 bits whereas I am using a windows 7 64 bits op sys. Then I tried for hours to resolve the problem by using the bios method, lili usb creator software and in it other options but all in vain. So now I am simultaneously downloading linux 32bit op system and then try with that.

I hope this would help me. Is there any other way I can detect the drive because then I can try some softwares for recovering the data.

Thanks for the reply, but you see the the casing seems pretty solidly closed and then I dont want to risk it with me trying to open it. Atleast now I have the hope that I could retrieve most of the data If I could without tampering with the hardware. the data in it is very precious to me. I have tried the drive on another PC at my home and also tried with different USB ports , cables even the power adapter but couldnt see any difference. I am doing everything I know but the problem is not going away. Once I can make it appear on my computer I can use getdata back or O&O recovery softwares they have worked for me in the past for less sized hard drives.

Sorry if I have texted too much but you see I am very anxious about this .
