Hey, I would like to know which CPU is better out of the Intel I3-3240 and Intel I5-2500k

I'm sorry if this is such a dull, silly and lame question, but I'm not so good with CPU's lol.

I appreciate all the help

UHM NEITHER, in these days, as both are way under performing for 'playing games on'. You can score Haswell (4xxx) CPU based systems for the SAME price as a 3xxx PC. But if your current system is a Dell/Gateway/etc. you CAN NOT move the Windows to a new Mobo/CPU, it ONLY works with your current Mobo/CPU model PC.

Your best bet would be a new PC, either build one from PC Pick Parts or upgrade a simple system. For example a i5 can be had at Walmart for only $349, then upgrade the PSU (600W for $99) and the GPU (Nvidia 7xx or AMD Rx) between $149 to $499. Or you can score a Haswell i7 for only a little more @ $599...

Which CPU (that is available, unlike the I5 which is now discontinued) do you recommend me getting? I don't mind if its the same speed as the I5-2500k, I just need a new CPU to play games on, preferably as good as the I5 2500k.
