I have a r9 280x with a fx 8350 processor and I experience screen tearing on my monitor (an old hp w1907 monitor at 60hz)
So what should I do? Should I get a new 120hz monitor? I kind of know what adaptive vsync is, but I don't know how to work it, customise it (like put it on triple buffering or something like that) and download it on an AMD system, so can anyone help me? Thanks

if you exceed 60fps on games you are doomed to have image tearing even with a brand new 2ms 60hz monitor. you have these options. tweak your setting so max fps stay below 60fps or use something like fraps and cap the fps to 60 or enable vsync and triple buffer or upgrade to an 120hz-144hz monitor. though even with a 144hz monitor if you still manage higher fps than 144 the problem will still exist. adaptive vsync is nvidia exclusive

i recommend buying nvidia. i went from 6950 to 770, which eliminated frame tearing even in games that didnt max out my old card. also, i always use vsync on both cards, and even when i was well within the capabilities of my card, i had tearing. not sure how the new r9 series cards are handling though, but thats my experience.

AMD has slower VRAM.... screen tearing comes from the VRAM and the monitor communicating poorly. VRAM is most important to "smooth" frame rates. However, for all you AMD fan boys..... I must admit that the chipset on AMD has always been far more beefy than Nvidia. However, the flagship cards from the 700 series, and the 770 are some pretty beastly chipsets. And 770's (2GB) and under 300$.

Also that VRAM issues is pretty much the entire reason why proffessional "gaming" build usually use Nvidia over AMD. Its like a ferrari vs a 1100 horsepower Turbo diesel pickup. If you buy only the power you need to game and no more, you but more money into that VRAM and get the better "cornering" but if you want raw power you go with them beastly chipsets from AMD.

oh and i dont mean to combat any opinions, in fact i still love AMD but in the curent market and with what products are availiable... idk man.... ( I done seen ur AMD badge )
