Hey guys,

Before I begin, here are my system specs as I remember them:

5.2 GB DDR
i5 2500K
5770HD
Antec 440W PSU
A pair of 500GB HDs that function fine when used in an external enclosure. Windows 7

So on to my issue:
Put simply, my computer is failing to boot up. This is sort of a recurring issue, since about a month ago I was just using chrome (with Killing Floor running in the background since I died early on in round 10 and was just waiting for my team to win or die), and the sound went berserk, the display showed a whole bunch of crazy colors (they looked like a magic eye painting, or an early 2000s direct X error), I got a blue screen of death, and then the computer shut down and would not boot up again.

I should be clear that at this stage I have changed no hardware, installed nothing remarkable (e.g. no drivers etc.), and that the system has been functioning without incident since summer 2010.

I press the power button about a week later on a whim, and it boots up as normal! I figure it's an isolated incident, but a week later it happens again.

Again, it would not boot up initially, and I leave it alone for a few days and it boots up okay.

Most recently, I was streaming some TV shows when I went to bed, and when I wake up in the morning, I cannot wake the computer from sleep. So I kill the power, switch it back on, and once again the same issue as before.

Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

So the basics:

Open the PC and use canned air to spray out all the dust bunnies, then use a paint brush on the vents, fans, grills, etc. to clean them
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) that is garbage and you need to uninstall it first
go to www.filehippo.com and download / install AVAST! or AVG and have them to a FULL SCAN of your computer.
downloaded and run MALWAREBYTES to run a full scan and clean the PC
Download Slim Driver and make sure all drivers are up to date.
Download SPECCY and post the first tab here, this will give us also you IDLE temp
Download install MSI Afterburner, and if you do crash, what was the temp?

Comments: Computers have a lifeshelf of only 5 years from date they are made. They may sit on a shelf for over a year, and through use wear down overtime both on the software side as well as the hardwareside. Given the age my first thought is dust bunnies and overheating to help 'limp it along'. My second would be your just near End Of Life and need replacing totally. Positive news a computers are much cheaper, and if you have to change out for gaming a Walmart $349 i5 will do well (as you know on your much older 2xxx series), upgrade the PSU (600w $90) and add a current GPU (Nvidia 7xx or AMD Rx $149-$499) and you will be set for the next 5 years. If you ant a better investment you can instead shoot for only a little more and grab a Haswell (newest chipset released) full computer i7 then add PSU and GPU for only $599 http://slickdeals.net/f/6657778-lenovo-h530-desktop-pc-core-i7-4770-3-4ghz-haswell-8gb-ddr3-1tb-hdd-wifi-n-dvdrw-usb-3-hdmi-win-8-599-90-free-shipping-staples
