ive bought a gainward gtx 680 2nd hand, and am unsure if I need to power it with both the 6-pin & the 8pin connectors.

http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/31695-gainward-gtx-78...

this article suggests they only use 195w and dont need it, and the manual can be read both ways... im assuming i need to use both because there are 2 connectors on the card, but they could be using similar boards to the 780?

anyone chime in with an answer?

thanks!

Most gfx cards detect if both 6/8 pin sockets are not populated and will not enable the card.

Yes you need to connect it. Even if it doesn't need that much power it won't boot properly if it's not connected. You can trick it by connecting the last two pics together, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you have a PSU you are confident in

It doesn't need any adapters if your PSU is adequate and has the necessary 6/8 pin aux power cables. If your PSU doesn't have a 6 and 8 pin PCIe cable, chances are it isn't powerful enough for the card.
