This just started yesterday but my computer crashed and when i tried to start it back up it would freeze as soon as the desktop came up. I reinstalled windows 7 and i was able to get to the desktop but if i openned a program it would crash, no bsod, sometimes as a solid color on the screen, other times with squiggly colored lines. I ran memtest for 12 hours with no fails, took out each stick of ram individually with the same results. Then i partitioned space on one of my other hard drives and did another installation of window with the same results. I took out all the necessary components like my sound card and still no change. Finally did a fresh install of ubuntu to see if it would do it as well and it would when i tried to click on the dash home. I updated my gpu driver on both systems but i suspect that the gpu is still the culprit. I was hoping to get some insight on here before i make a purchase.

Yeah, squiggly lines, solid color, doing it regardless of OS. Most likely points to hardware failure. The most likely of them is the GPU since it seems... well... graphics related.

If they have cheap gpus at like frys or walmart then grab one. (even the worst one they have for about 10 bucks, that ought to be fine for testing)

Or if you have onboard gpu, try it.
