Graphics card general issues

I just built my new computer last week. I'm currently using an Intel i5 2500K processor, ASUS P8Z77-V Pro mobo, GTX 570 GPU, 8 GB RAM, and a 750W PSU.

When I first put an OS on my hard drive, I booted using Windows 8 and everything worked fine, with the exception of a few crashes while played Assassin's Creed IV. I checked all the drivers and everything is up to date.

More recently, however, issues have gotten much worse. About 85% of the time, the GPU does not seem to be sending a signal to my monitor. If i connect the monitor to the integrated VGA port, everything looks fine, but nothing comes out of the card.

What's more, when the GPU works with the display, games will freeze after about 10 minutes of clean gameplay. No error messages appear, only freezing, requiring a reboot.

Is this an OS/compatibility issue, or something I'm not seeing?
