A good graphics card upgrade? In need of some advice.

Hi, two days ago I lost my old graphics card, more like I can't get anymore output from it so I'm pretty sure it died. Anyways I'm thinking of buying one to use for now, and to use later on for a new build I'm doing in a 3 month period. Which should I get? I have about 150 dollars for the card, I really wanna see an improvement from my old card, I am planning on using this card for gaming obviously, getting above 25 frames in recent games at 1280x1024 resolution.
My current system specs are:
Mobo: GA-945GCM-S2L
My old gpu was a geforce 8500 gt.
4 (3 usable) Gigs of DDR2
Pentium 4 @ 3.4 GHz
Windows 7 Ultimate
500 Gig HDD (some old samsung model I got).
Mercury PSU @500W
This build is really old (I got it in 2009).
What advice can you guys give me? Which graphics card do I get?
What about my future build? Assuming I'm willing to spend about $500 on the MOBO+RAM+CPU.

O.K., Better still, just ask around your mates to ask their friends and see what they got; An E6600 would be a massive improvement ( I gor a spare and so do many people)
An HD 3850 graphics card would piddle all over your 8500 an all ( got one spare) these cost peanuts.
You should buy a big boys PSU first tho.
Good luck with it.
P.S. any fool can reach the end of F3 quick, but its not really the point. 230 hours will see you walking the wastes in boredom with Faulks after all the DLC content.
I will issue you a challenge; Do the dlc's, get the chinese stealth suit, then pick Moriate's office door in stealth mode and stab him in the ear from behind while he is sat at his desk.
never enjoyed ANYTHING in a game as much as that.

Dude, I beat every CoD game on it, except the BoPS and ghosts of course, as well as the new tomb raider, the new DmC, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Arkham Asylum and City. I'd gotten sick of playing games at lowest resolution and details. I desperately need to play a game, haven't gamed since ever, might get me a decent card tomorrow if i can find one, though I doubt it, I live in Iraq :(

your current cpu is 'beyond a joke' and you could run one of these

Yep, that's the motherboard. I like your thinking I'm thinking about doing it, sounds awesome to me, until I get me a decent build when I get enough cash. Thank you :)

You should buy an xfx 550 watt core pro power suply first, and plan on a new build. This would deffo be more advantageous in the long run.
I did too play fallout 3 for a bit on a pentium dual core, (not a core2 duo) and it handled it ok, despite missing several frames at a time.
'skip skip' But you really need something with wallop and a i5 4440 is the way to go.

I agree with you, I definitely will buy that power supply first.
Fallout 3 was awesome, when i first played it I beat it in 35 hours, in 5 sessions with massive amounts of cola and pringles *sigh* those were the days.
I will consider that i5 once I get that PSU :)

Never paid the pimp either. Even wiping out Jones at Parradise falls wasnt as satisfying (tho fun)
However; fallout new Vegas? Bigger stories and more fun.
Am 80 hours in and havent even downloaded the dlc's.
Still playing on my E6600 sysrtem, need to put it on the haswell rig and get moving
with my 5850. Am just being distracted by the game.
