I have an asus crosshair mobo that wants the main power connector and the 8 pin, 4 pin, and a fan power plugin. The main power, 8 pin, and fan connections are easy..but the only connector on the corsair 850 ps that might fit is an extra pci-e power connector. The pci connection fits fine using the center 4 pins. Is that ok?

No, its not OK.
The 4 pin connector is a supplementary 12V power connector for the motherboard and this is not compatible with the PCI-E pin out.
This connector is likely optional depending on installed components.
What is you motherboard model?

Ok good thanks..I unplugged it. I have an Asus crosshair V a-z mobo.
Later in the manual it stated that this connection was optional unless many graphics cards are installed. I only have one 680, but this connector is going to be kind of buried after the liquid cooling is finished. Thanks again for the help.

If you were worried about it, you could get a molex to 4-pin CPU connector adapter and use that. It would work and give you the extra power, though I don't think you'll need it unless you are overclocking a lot.

Thanks..I didn't know they had an adapter available. I should have checked on that. I'll get one if it doesn't work unplugged. Thanks again.
