How to learn game graphics programming?

I graduate from school in 2 years studying computer science. I've decided to learn Graphics programming and I'm familiar with c++ and java learning sdl 2d game development then I want to move to 3d programming you guys have any advice or tips?

I was in same boat as you many years ago, now I work in game industry. Because 3D graphics have advanced so much in the last decade, the old route of just learning basic OpenGL or DirectX is going to be very difficult. I would recommend first leaning how the artists create the 3D then move into OpenGL and DirectX. Best way to do this right now and get most bang for your buck is to download the free Unreal Dev Kit, and get a decent book on Amazon for it. Try to make a 3D scene with some models and animation and really learn how that works, then move onto the deep down stuff in OpenGL.

thanks for the advice man but hmm I started a different route I started 2d programming with the DirectX Sdk to get somewhat familiar with it and learning 3d math on the side after that I can start Udk like you said and then go into graphics programming step by step. But my only thing Is to learn enough to even get an intership by the time I graduate can I do it? Lol in my mind I can do it but in reality not sure
