Do i need a good surge protector for this power supply?

You do not need a surge protector, all new power supplies have them build it. They don't advertise it as a feature because it isn't very exciting and everyone does it.

For bad power I'd recommend a UPS. Should clean up the power a bit and provide a bit of stability in addition to a battery backup incase of a sudden power outage.

And no I don't have any recommendations as I have only had one so far.
