I am shifting into a new apartment and want to have a home network built in.
I currently have the following:
1.Modem
2.Dlink DVG-n5402sp ( VOIP) {given by ISP)
3.Home phone (wireless)
4.Dlink DIR-865L (ISP)
5.Asus RT-AC68U ( i bought it )
6.Canon MG6270 ( LAN and Wifi)
7.WD Mybooklive
8.2 PC
9.A smart TV ( i connecting using LAN, wireless too slow)
10. Internet Switch (8 port)

My plan:

Modem > Dlink DVG-n5402sp > Internet Switch > Asus RT-AC68U > Dlink DIR-865L

DLink DVG-n5402sp > Home phone

Internet Switch > PC1
> PC2
> WD Mybooklive
>TV
> Printer

What is the purpose of the Asus and second dlink router more wireless coverage ?

To avoid nasty issues with NAT and to make things run simpler you want to run both your other routers as AP. This is quite the waste since the Asus has a number of nice features such as parental control that you are going to lose. It doesn't really matter since it would have to be before all your devices anyway..ie between your main router and your switch to use its router function.

So even running these as AP is going to be a massive issue. On the 2.4 band you are going to have to use all of the 3 channels 1,6,11 one for each. On the 5g band you really only have 2 802.11ac blocks of 4 channels the bottom 4 and the top 4 so you must assign one to each. The main router you need to pick a 5g channel that does not interfere. I would use the 5th block from the bottom.

When you run your devices as AP they appear as switches so you really can plug them in any order you want but simpler is always better.

I forgot to say that my drink DVG-n5402sp, voip is not being used for wifi access, i deactivated the wifi arability of that router.

I want to use 2 routers, because i don't get good range, even when i place it in the middle of the apartment

Then just run the other 2 routers as AP. You can cable them anyway that is easiest. If you can hook both routers directly to the switch but it will not cause a huge issue to daisy chain them like you propose. It would only matter if you though you could exceed 1g on one of the cables.

You still have 2 routers. The main problem you are going to have is device on the WAN side of the Asus will not be able to open session with things on the lan side. This is the standard NAT problem and you can't really solve it with port forwarding unless you only have a single machine behind the asus. you will also have issues if you use game consoles behind the asus since they like to us UPnP to put in dynamic port forwards in the nat which will not work if you run multiple routers.

It will work it is just a pain so you are best off using your other routers purely as wireless AP.

ok, so i follow your method

Modem > DLink Voip ( with wifi disabled ) > Asus rtac66u ( AP mode set in the router UI)

MY question now is where to wire up the DLink Router 865L.

For the remaining peripheral, like the PC, MBL, smart tv, printer, etc. ( shown in the first post above),
should i get a 16 port switch to wire them together and plug it into the drink Voip?

Home phone will plug into the dlink voip
