I have just got a new cpu fan. I installed it and plugged everything in right and when I turn it on all the fans work on the inside but anything I plug in externally eg. Mouse, keyboard, monitor will not work at all and will say 'No signal detected' and the only problem I can think of is that I have a bad power supply being at only 500w and it could be at capacity so then everything else won't work but I am not to sure.

Are you using a graphics card or the onboard video? If you're using onboard it's unlikely that 500W is not sufficient; it should be more than enough. If you have a new video card that draws a lot of power like a GTX 680 or something really strong then the psu would be more of a factor. A cpu will "protect" itself if you don't reseat the fan properly to prevent overheating and not let it get hot if that makes sense. It's kind of hard to pinpoint your problem with the info here. Installing the fan usually needs more force than you'd expect, so I'm guessing that may have not been done properly. Also, you need to always clean the old thermal paste and apply a very small amount but cover the entire plate area thinly as possible to allow best heat transfer. It could be something else but this is more common than most people realize and even some of the most experienced builders don't reseat the cpu fan properly and have to try more than once so it's nothing personal. You'll need something like arctic clean or isopropyl alcohol to remove the old thermal paste. The cpu and fan surfaces should look like new before applying new thermal paste. You may have just placed the new fan's paste ontop of the old one but the cpu should at least boot up. What else can you share so I'm guessing less and helping you further?
