Sorry. I was looking at the wrong brand motherboard. The GIGABYTE model has a heatsink on its VRMs but the MSI model doesn't.
Cheaping out on a heatsink just to save a few cents. You can even see the silk screened outline for the heatsink right on the motherboard. You would think that MSI would have enough intelligence to avoid the problem and reduce RMAs but the bean counters won out.
