Hi there,

I got an open wireless network as a considerable distance, and the first though it was to use an external antenna that could capture the wireless network to my home.

I tried to use these equipment TPLINK WA801ND and TL-ANT2414A to capture and got the signal to connect.

I tried has a bridge with AP and I could detect the network but could not access to internet.

Do I need a router ?
Or could I use an AP Like the model I mentioned before ?

Thanks in advanced.

The is unfortunate you went out and spent so much money. They make outdoor devices that work much better for much less money. Things like the ubiquiti airgrid or the engenius ens200. These cost just about what you paid for just the antenna.

You should be able to run the tplink box in client-bridge mode and plug your PC directly into the back. You should get a IP directly from remote network.

Client-bridge mode is the simplest and should always work with all network. It does not use WDS which is not a standard and varies between manufactures so it can be tricky to get to work. Now if you need to run multiple devices or you need wireless in your house then the tplink in theory can do that but it uses WDS to accomplish this. If you cannot make it work it would be at this point you would need a router. You would plug the router into the tp-link and run it in client-bridge mode. You would then hook the wan port to the tplink. This should work because you are only passing a single mac address and the rest are hidden by the router.

After I posted this I reread the title and if your goal is to use this as a repeater to get wireless you can try it but I suspect you will end up with a router also.
