First of all thanks for whatever help anyone may provide.

My objective is to use what I have to build a server for my home. The use will be:

1. Store media that will be played from a windows PC and also from a Plex enabled smart TV.
2. Run Plex server.
3. Run a bit torrent client.
4. FTP server to keep a few files that I sometimes need to access when I am away.
5. Accept PPTP connections. This is handy when I am abroad and I can use my home ISP VoIP service from my android terminal (for example connecting via hotel's wifi onto my home network via PPTP VPN). I am currently able to do this with a windows XP PC running at home, but the new server would replace it (it is really ancient!).

I have an old AM2 motherboard with SATA RAID support (abit AN-M2HD, Nvidia Geforce 7050PV/NF630a). I have a CPU (Athlon x2 BE2350 with passive cooling) and 2GB of RAM. I also have a 500W fanless/silent power supply and a CD/DVD drive. I will need to buy hard drives though.

My plan was to install windows XP on a PATA SSD drive (found a cheap 32GB Transcend on Amazon).
Then I would buy 4 SATA HD drives (maybe 4TB each?) for the 4 SATA ports the mobo has and run them as RAID 5 just for data. Yes I want to have some redundancy and I care more for capacity than speed. I also want to it to be as cool/silent as possible.

However, I have the following concerns:
1. Will the 4TB drives be an issue with Win XP?
2. Shall I use the mobo RAID 5 capabilities or go for the RAID 5 support provided by Win XP?
3. Maybe I should use Win 7 instead (although I hear it does not have RAID support, so I would have to go for mobo based RAID)?
4. Would I be better of going for FreeNAS? Can FreeNAS do all the things I need (Plex server, torrent client, FTP server and accept PPTP connections)?
5. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
Pedro

No-one... really?? :-(
Well... I'm expecting the new PATA SSD drive to arrive tomorrow so I will probably get on with Windows installation - I think I will go for Win 7. I found the Nvidia drivers for RAID on their site, which should work with my mobo (NF630a chipset)... Then I'll start looking for the 4 SATA HD drives...
