This was originally posted into systems...Turned out the question I asked turned out to be about motherboards.

Basically I'm going to get a second hand am3/am3+ board, as as stopgap upgrade before my next pc..I'll be looking on ebay, and ideally would like to spend between £10 and £45.

I'd like it to have core unlock, sata3 and usb3...usb3 I guess is least important.

I know that core unlock is a mixed bag,in that it might not work, but am I shortening the life of my ssd by not haveing sata3/achi enabled?

My current system; ASUS M4N68T-M, with AMD Athlon II X3 445 Processor

8Gb Crucial DDR3 1666
Zalman Z12 case
xigmatec Redscorpion Fan
AMD 4850 GPU 1GB
Corsair CX500 PSU
amsung 840 evo ssd boot disc, and old WD 500gb storage drive

Mainly used for watching iplayer and playing strategy games (civ5, xcom). And apart from the noise the graphics card makes, performs pretty well. (I did have a sapphire 7750 passive die on me recently, but didn't really mind the dx10.1 graphics hit, its the noise I can't stand)

Eventually I see myself with a stronger m/b & CPU, for Civilization late game performance, as well as future titles...and would rebuild the other one for multiplayer purposes. (using old generic case and ram, and stock fan from next cpu). I'd put off buying the newer machine though for as long as I can though, to try to get most bang for my buck.

In the meantime, and to benefit the secondary pc, I think the m/b is holding me back. because.
No support for sata3 or ACHI
No core unlock
No USB3 (which I guess isn't too important yet, but the case has 2 USB3 ports I can't plug in...)

Finding a motherboard which supports both core unlock, USB3 and sata3 seems to be quite tricky, as coreunlock stopped with newer CPUs.

Can anyone recommend a good board...or just any general advice relating to the build(s) I'm thinking of...or chipsets to look out for...or even just any Civ5 late-game-turn-time based pc performance trivia....

Many thanks in advance

I can't help ya to much as I live in the US. But Core unlocking is random luck, No one can guarantee an unlock, You can have a unlockable CPU that will unlock on this board but not that board. Or a unlockable CPU that isn't stable without adding a crazy amount of voltage.

You can get something like this that around that price in USD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128440, but I do not know if it will unlock as I run the 1100T in a system with that board. But it might be more or less in your area.

Good Luck!
