Question about motherboards

So right now I am planning on upgrading my motherboard and buying a new computer case. I was planning on getting the ASUS maximus VI Hero, but I wasn't sure if my processor would be compatible with it. I'm not the most tech savvy person, but I know the basics, so here is my simple question: Will my i5-2500k (and the water cooler i guess too) fit in a ASUS Maximus VI hero? or will i have to get a different motherboard/different processor? The hero's cpu socket is LGA1150 (like i said before, not really sure about how that works). If not, if someone could recommend a motherboard or two I would appreciate it. Here is my set up if it helps

Intel 15-2500k (with some generic water cooler)
Samsung 840 pro SSD
Seagate 1.5 TB HDD
GA p673-d3-bv3 motherboard
Asus r9-280x
some 1000w PS (cant see the brand through the fan)
ANTEC Darkfleet DF-85

aaaand I believe that is everything... Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it!

Best Regards,
Dan

If you are just wanting a performance increase you can either get a second R9 280X and run your GPUs in Crossfire (assuming the mobo supports it) or you can get a better GPU. The Crossfire option would be my choice if you keep your current set-up.

Otherwise, you might try selling your i5 2500k CPU and getting the Hero and i5 4670k. However, you would probably need to get a new OS since you would be changing/upgrading motherboards.

Unless you are going to spend the money to upgrade to a socket 1150 CPU, it's probably not worth upgrading your motherboard. The 2500k is still one of the best gaming CPUs out there. What exactly is your motherboard make/model? I tried looking it up and didn't get anything resembling a motherboard in my search results.

Thank you all for your responses!

As for why I am replacing my motherboard, I have been having these bad visual glitches due to, what a couple people have narrowed it down to, a failing motherboard and that is the main reason I am replacing it. And yes, that is the motherboard I currently have.

In regards to the new motherboard though, I am looking for something a little less expensive, around 200 or less. Sadly the Maximus V is a little out of my price range ($289 on newegg). If anyone has anymore suggestions I would really appreciate it :) I do plan on doing what animal has suggested in the future, with Crossfire, but as of right now I am really just looking for a better than average but not super high end motherboard that works with my system.

Again, thanks for the replies!

Best Regards,
Dan

Bad visual glitches? It might be the GPU... can you kind of explain more to me?

Sorry I forgot to respond to this in so long, things have been busy.

I ended up getting the ASROCK z77 extreme4, since the USB ports gave out and I felt it sac indeed time for a upgrade.

Sora, I ended up rma-ing my card back to asus. It was apparently some vram malfunction causing an incredible amount of horizontal line tearing and random crashes with weird colored screens. Anyways, my card should hopefully be back next week. Thanks for all the help!

Best regards,
Dan
