First PC build help.

Solution
If you want the i5, get an h87 motherboard. The Z87 boards are for overclocking and you will not be doing that with the i5 you selected so an z87 board is a waste of money.

Just get an ASUS h87 board and keep the i5. The system will play modern games at medium settings with the current GPU you have there.
No, you have an overclocking motherboard with a non-overclocking CPU. You GPU is too low end to justify an i5.

Change to an fx-6300, AM3+ 970 chipset motherboard, and a better GPU

Then get 8gb RAM in a 2x4gb kit 1.5v 1600mhz

500w PSU from Antec, XFX, Corsair, Seasonic.

Why do you suggest an amd processor? Ive read everywhere that intel cpu is better, and for the gpu i plan to upgrade that later, as right now im on a budget. Along with asus motherboard i have read that they have some of the best motherboards. If i keep that motherboard, what would be a good cpu for it then?
