Hi all,

I am new to the community and have just completed my first build, so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

I just booted up my computer for the first time and the display is showing the message "Reboot and select proper boot device." Before this screen appears, the Gigabyte startup screen flashes for a brief moment before showing this message. I have checked my SATA and power supply connections to my SSD and HDD. I have done some reading and found that I can enter the BIOS by resetting the CMOS. While in the BIOS, both drives are shown in the boot priority options.

Basically, I just want to be able to access the Gigabyte start up screen without viewing this message. However, whenever I accept default bios settings and reboot, the message appears again.

My components are:
Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
Plextor Extreme 128 GB SSD
WD caviar blue 1TB HDD
i3570k
G Skill Ripjaws 2x4 GB RAM
Corsair CX 430

I have seen some suggestions that setting boot options to 'legacy' would help, but I wouldn't know where to start changing the boot options. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you set your boot option 1 to the primary drive? Is windows/linux ect installed to the drive? If no to any of those then you will always get that message. Also you enter bios by hitting either F2 or the DEL key (usually) spam those keys as soon as you hit the power button to enter bios. Also whenever you change you have to save and exit. Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick with what you are asking.

Thanks for the quick response zink. I posted this before trying to install Windows 7. Since then I have been able to install my OS and everything is running smoothly. I didn't realize this error would come up unless an OS had been installed...I think I was a tad hasty and let my first build jitters get to me. Anyway, thanks again for helping out a newcomer like myself.
