what happens if I replace my original xbox hard drive

Hello my original xbox is soft modded and when ever I turn it on it shows up a black screen its because I downloaded a theme on xmc and the theme showed up all black so does anyone know how to fix this if I replace the hard drive will it return to its original Xbox boot up menu unsoft modded or what

XBox HD's are locked to that XBox with a security key, as well as the OS resides on the HD, so putting in any old HD won't work, only putting in the original HD would work, or one that has been locked with the same key. If the XBox seems to boot up, you might get lucky and be able to FTP into the box if you know the IP or run an IP sniffer and if FTP is enabled. From there you could disable the theme, upload a new XBMC, etc but you need to know what you're doing.

IIRC, there is a safe mode for XBMC too, but I can't recall how to enter it or if there is or not, been a loooong time since I modded original XBoxes.

Well I can still play games,also there is a safe mode if I turn off the xbox and turn it back on before it boot into xbmc I press the eject.button and it boot.into the original dashboard instead of xbmc

The booting to the stock dash isn't safe mode, it's a way to boot without the mod on. The XBMC safe mode I was thinking of comes up in red and lets you FTP into the XBox. If it boots games, it would probably boot a burnt dvd. I would suggest getting Slayers XBox DVD, burn that, then you could burn it and have FTP access and delete the theme, or reinstall XBMC. There is lots of tut's online, I don't remember offhand how to do everything and don't have hours to try to remember and make a tut. It is saveable but take your time because you can still really screw it up.
