Hi. I am new to building computers and I'm planning my first build. I was wondering if these parts would make a good gaming computer and are compatible.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G45 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($112.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($74.29 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($329.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Case Fan: Fractal Design FD-FAN-SSR2-140 66.0 CFM 140mm Fan ($14.50 @ Mwave)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($22.99 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1004.70
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Also, I don't know if I need the case fan.
Thanks for any help.

The Fractal Design R4 comes with included fan/s. Also the build is not worth it. Why? You are spendig money on the motherboard so you can overclock, but the processor is locked. The Corsair Builder series i would recommend it only for cheap build under 500$. Here is what you can get for the money. I will give you one from intel and one from amd and you are going to say which is better ( both under 1000$) :
CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($149.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($70.71 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 770 4GB Video Card ($369.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($71.30 @ Newegg)
Total: $991.94

CPU : Fast cpu, great for the money and spend a little bit more so you can overclock it.
MOBO : Best MOBA for overclocking and SLI/CF for the price.
RAM : Faster RAM and from one of the best.
HDD : You can add and SSD, but i wanted to fit in the budget. If not you will get a very good note in the Windows certificate.
GPU : Probably the best card. 4 GB and if you SLI in the future it is going to be a raper.
CASE : I saved the case, because its one of the best cases and it is with low price.
PSU : A good bronze certificated PSU from the best : Seasonic. Going to need an upgrade if you want to SLI.

Ok thats the AMD build, now comes and the Intel build.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.97 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($34.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G55 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($124.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($80.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($70.71 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 770 4GB Video Card ($369.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($71.30 @ Newegg)
Total: $1065.93

Probably the better one, but i would go with the AMD, but its your desicion.
The CPU is good, its unlocked so you can OC it..
I was looking for a motherboard that suports SLI so i chose this.
The ram is the same but its ARES and there is no diference.

Ok, i hope i helped, have fun with building your PC. Good Luck!
