Specs:
Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB
A10-6800K Richland 4.1GHz
8GB DDR3 1600MHZ
1TB SATA Hard Drive 7200 RPM
ASRock FM2A75 Pro4-M FM2
550 Watt Apower PSU
Case: NZXT 921RB-001-BL Black Steel GUARDIAN

Just got my new 770 and installed drivers an everything, played fine then decided to crank up Borderlands 2 all the way. Played fine the shut down after about 15 minutes of play. Opened the case and could feel heat from PSU and GPU as well as the mild scent of burning plastic. I havent turned it back on but i suspect the problem is my PSU is not powerful enough. My case was rather small so my GPU power connectors are fairly close to the card its self and to be honest its a little cramped in there. Help?

throw that piece of crap PSU out the window and pray it didn't burn your card out.

i didn't do much research but i believe the minimum requirement for this card is 600watt power supply with atleast 42 amps on the 12v rail...
i bet the apower psu has nowhere near that power, doesn't matter what's written on the box

Thanks, I don't think it will be fine as I haven't touched it since and the card is brand new. Are you fairly certain that is the cause? And what PSU would you recommend?

well technically you should be fine, i'm 99% sure the psu died... problem is when they die - cheap noname ones like this could cause other components to fail if it doesn't have decent overvoltage protection etc. ... but unless you got unlucky everything will be fine,
in simple terms - i wouldn't use that psu with such a high end card if i had a gun pointed at me... it's dangerous and this was bound to happen sooner or later, there's no way around it - it was not suitable 100%

as for recommendations - you could start with corsair cx600m ... it has 46amps on a single 12v rail, i use one myself and it handles fx6350 and gtx580
i think the earlier version of the regular cx600 were a bit weaker on the 12v so i wouldn't recommend those... but realistically i'd stepup to a slightly higher model in the lineup ... like the GS or TX series or higher...
also seasonic is a excellent brand ... can't go wrong with those... if you need a cheaper option sometimes FSP (fortron) have some decent ones...
i hear cooler master have some models built by seasonic so those should be good...
basically find a reliable brand and check the specs... get something that has close to 50 amps on the 12v rail and you won't have any issues for years... (amps x 12volts = watts)

you might even get by with something slightly weaker that has only those recommended 42amps but for psu's it's better to leave some headroom... and overclocking cpu and gpu also increases the power draw...
