Quality of cables

I have drawers full of cables, USB, RGB, VGA etc.

When I see one at a yard sale that I may need in future I'll get if it is cheap enough.
The other day I bought a like brand new DVI to HDMI cable for $1.

I always wonder if there is a measurable quality difference between cheap ones and high end cables.
I never saw the need to spend $25 on a USB cable for example.

But maybe investing in a better quality one may pay off, I don't know.

Can someone enlighten me please?

Thanks.

Most cables, especially digital one like DVI's have to be made to a spec, you do not get better/ faster with a more expensive cable - unless it a really cheaply made cable & doesn't meet the original spec. But it can make the retailer a lot of money!

maybe the wire quality but I think "gold" pins and stuff like that will be "better" quality but I don't think the difference can be measured in numbers. itll work or it will break in 2 weeks, that's how quality is determined in this case..

Gold does not make a stronger cable, how the Pins are 'attached to the wire, the connection between the cable & the connector can influence durability, but that's about it.
I've done cabling on large & small networks plus for individuals
