Recent documents files disappear

My recent documents files suddenly disappear while I am working. No shutdown happens and they suddenly disappear before my very eyes even. The recent documents folder remains on my start menu but the files disappear and it shows empty. Why is this happening?

This is some cause of a virus where your files will be deleted or hidden automatically without noticing. If the original folder is there, but empty, try to right click, and show its property, if the capacity remains and not in 0%, or in bytes, then your files might be hidden. Do you have antivirus installed? if not, then I suggest you install antivirus on your pc so that you can avoid that kind of problem in the future.
