I was running my Imation - Apollo USB 2.5" Portable 250GB Hard Drive when suddenly the operating system stopped detecting it. The blue LED indicator on the drive lights up and stays that way but it doesn't show on the PC. I use Windows XP SP3 and apparently all USB ports on the PC are working fine.
The connection USB cable is the Y cable that came with the unit.
Anyone with a hint of what the problem can be, or even better, how to solve it and be able to retrieve the data.
Thanks

probably dead.

You have to trouble shoot.
First, do other USB devices work in the port you are trying?

If they do, then you can probably assume it is not the computer.
A second test for the same thing is try it in a different computer.

Once you eliminate the computer, you have to remove the drive from the case and hook it directly to the computer, or to another adapter.

If the drive is still nor recognized, it is dead, and can only salvaged by a data recovery service.
They will rebuild the mechanical parts of the drive that failed, and recover the data, for a tidy sum.
