Hi guys ive been lerking on the forums for quite some time and ive learned a lot but now i have a problem with my one month old homebuilt computer and i need to rely on you

Computer specs:
case: roswell line-m micro-atx mini tower computer case

motherboard: msi fm2-a75ma-e35

Psu: corsair cx series cx500

cpu:amd athlon x4 750k trinity 3.5 ghz

ram: corsair vengeance 8 gb 240 pin ddr3 1600

harddrive: western digital black wd1002faex 1tb 7200 rpm

gpu: gigabite gv-r927xoc 2gd radeon r9 270x 2gb 256 bit

optical drive - lite-on dvd burner - bulk 24x dvd+r 8x dvd+ rw 12x

operating system- microsoft windows home premium sp1 64 bit

The computer went together fine and worked perfectly for a month, up untill the day before yesterday. I shut down the computer properly after a long gaming session. The next time It was powered on it got stuck at the starting windows screen for over an hour. I spent the next ten hours trouble shooting trying everything i possibly could
(the computer was running about 20x slower than normal the whole time)untill finally i gave in and did a clean install of windows 7 after the install which took a conserable amount of time i finnally managed to get it to boot to desktop it takes about 5 minutes to open a page and about 20 min to boot
for referance it took about 35 secs to boot before the problems started
did a windows memory diagnostics test it said there were no problems detected
the hard drive activiity light has been on constantly since the problems started and i havnt been able to hear the hard drive seeking either
why did my brand new computer die overnight ?(its been plugged into a surge protector and has had virus protection since day one) what should i do? If any of you have any imput at all it would be much appreciated please help me. i think the hard drive may be the issue but thats just a guess

Solution
sounds like a hard drive problem. right click your hard drive from my computer and click properties. then under tools tab click error checking. maybe that will help ya to determine a problem or not.

after i did the disc check the computer is havning start up problems again and i dont have another computer to plug the drive into to check with data life guard i guess this is the point where i take the drive to a shop and get it tested

Edit: i managed to get data life gaurd on my computer with a flash drive and began running an extended test, im a few hours in only 820 hours remaining .... ive also noticed in the tasK manager that the cpu and ram arent doing much, the ram being used is sitting at 800 mb out of 8gb and the cpu stays at a really low usage too

WD data life gaurd Just sAID FAIL you have too many bad sectors to continue test so yeh its the hdd imma go to wallyworld pick up a cheap ones switch it out to make sure then send it back
