Approximate Purchase Date: Now - May
Location: IL, USA
Budget Range: $700 max before rebates, prefer it under $600
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Must run The Sims 3 on medium-high settings and handle 300 DPI photoshop files at 8x10in and above
Are you buying a monitor: No.
Do you need to buy OS: Yes but might install a Linux distro to begin with
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon and Newegg, but am open to others. Ebay is good too.
Parts Preferences: AMD CPU
Overclocking, SLI or Crossfire: No

Additional Comments: This will be my first build. I know it's more of a hassle, but I would like it as compact as possible and am fine with having to use an APU or low profile graphics card because of that. I was looking at the kaveri APUs and considering a super small form factor build using one of those instead, but the A8-7600 hasn't hit the market yet and I'm afraid I might have issues with the new FM3+ motherboards since this is my first build.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current PC (Dell Dimension 3000) is almost eight years old.. I've stopped drawing and playing games because of it. I'm not a real gamer at the moment, but would like to get back into playing casually. I want a card or APU that will run the Sims 3 and a modern MMO like Wizardry on medium settings just to be on the safe side.

These don't include DVD drives, but I will be needing one. I have a 500gb laptop hard drive I want to use too.

Possible build 1 (MicroATX):

Possible build 2 (Mini-itx):

I hope I did this right.. thank you so much for looking.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Qy96 this wipes the floor with either of your builds

Thanks, but I don't need a $300 graphics card (and if I do I'll just upgrade later.) and I'd rather keep one of the cases I picked out or go smaller since compactness was one of my needs.
I sort of just want to know if those two builds will work and if they're worth it. I don't mind playing my games in lower resolutions.
