Is it possible to share a LAN internet connection (cable modem) with computers on my ad hoc network?

I have a cable modem (NO ROUTER) wired via LAN cable to a desktop. I also have the same desktop hosting a wireless ad-hoc network between it and a laptop. Can I use the wireless ad-hoc connection between the desktop and laptop to access the internet on the laptop wirelessly, with no router?

You will need to add a second NIC card on the desktop. Or perhaps not in this situation since the desktop is hosting a wireless network. But I have a similar setup at my house, and I use the dual NIC card option for my PFsense wirewall. Anyhow, check out this link, the method you are looking for is called Internet Connection sharing. Assuming you are on a windows PC. I have never tried this with a wireless option, so hopefully it suites your needs and works out for the best. - Sub
