when i play the witcher 2 on any setting my cpu temperature spikes rapidly and i only get 2-3 minutes gameplay before the system restarts! my computer is only a week old. ive tried turning the fan up to full speed and that doesn't help one bit. what could be the problem, im running a gtx660ti, intel i7 4770k with a asrock z77 extreme4 m/b h84

Dear,

Pl ensure that stock cooler (one provided with the processor) is properly fitted over the CPU socket. Also confirm whether you are overclocking or not? Your CPU is for overclocking. If you are overclocking it then what cooler are using to control the temps? Air Cooler or Liquid based Cooler (Make and Model).

And if you are not using any such cooler but OCing the CPU pl get some good air/liquid based cooler.

Regards,

im a noooooob when it comes to this stuff, so changing the cooler is out of my league, it has copper pipes feeding into the cpu by the looks of it and four screws holding it down, im not game to mess around with that lol

Seems like you already have custom air cooler. Dear I'm afraid won't be able to help you much because your product is in warranty otherwise you could have checked it out at local vendor/service center

I don't know how they can shipped a build-ed rig and not ship as part and Assembly at the destination...
sending full build always risky and prone to bad handling problems... (I once send my rig to my home town and the mobo broke/fail... even i have take precaution..)

Anyways since u are not confident to disassemble/reinstall the cooler then u need to call the nearest technician...

Are we sure that it's an overheating issue? It can be anything... RAM sticks, PSU or even a bad ethernet driver... I mean you didn't give us the temperature values. I understand your temperature is spiking while playing games, but it usually spikes. The important part is how much it spikes. Does it spike from 30C to 60C or from 40-50C to 100C? What's your idle and load temperatures?

IMO the problems is the OP is not comfortable with tweaking the rig...
leave this to professional is better choice here, we can guide or do some trouble shooting but for actual disassemble the hardware
he will need help...

and there always a risk when we working with electrical device..
