Hey Guys

I installed Battlefield 4 on my rig(which is built for BF4 high & ultra gaming) a few days ago. when I start playing the game with High Settings, The gpu starts to hit between 70-85c and 80c and stable at 80c. Is that normal ? My card is MSI R9 290 TWIN FROZR IV, with the aftermarket cooler, so i think this shouldn't be happening. Please keep in mind that my drivers is 13.12 and have no Mantle. Plz suggest me what is wrong and what i should do.

System Specs:
Core i7 4770k stock clock speed
ASUS MAXIMUS IV Formula
Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB x 2 @ 1600MHz

Thanks for ur info and time ^ ^

Your card won't throttle till it hits 95c so you are fine with a max temp of 80c. If you want to drop the temps a lilttle more you can replace the stock thermal paste to drop an extra 5-10 degrees most likely. Usually the factory thermal paste is way more than what you need and messy, and it actually hinders cooling performance in a lot of cases. My TF3 7950 overclocked would go to the low 80's and after I replaced the thermal paste, it topped out around 65-70c.

You could also set your fans to run at a steady 65% fan speed while gaming. When I do this I top out around 60c, which shaves another 5-10c off. I now idle at 35c, and under load with manual fan at 65% I get around 60c under load and that's with a heavy overclock. Stock...

Not really necessary with your temps, but if you want temps to be even better you can try these steps out.

Will my removal of the paste will void the warranty ???
anyway, after some tweaking, it dropped to 65-78c :D
hope mantle kill this heat issues and a new image to performance.

But I have no idea why the test temp from sites like NCIX, Linus and overclockers.net are quite low.....

No you will not void MSI's warranty by replacing the thermal paste. Just make sure to not physically damage the board while doing so. That would void the warranty. ;)

What kind of case do you have? Plenty of ventilation and/or fans letting to move hot air out?

I had a similar problem with my Asus 670, which when on it's stock cooler, Just blew hot air around the inside of my tower. A few extra fans to draw that heat out made a lot of difference. Went from a running Temp of around 75 to around 50.

thanks bro... will give it a try, since i have the cooler master paste :)
can u also recommend me a good fan controller or a software ?
or physical changes to drop heat ?

I just use the Catalyst control center to control my fans on my video card. No fan controller needed if you just want to manually set the speed. When you replace the thermal paste, be careful of how much you use. Too much paste will insulate instead of disapate the heat. I used a thin cloud on both the gpu and the heatsink when I did mine.
