Last week I moved to my new apartment. Before re-setting up my homebuild that is about two years old, I decided to clean the fans and whatever else I could easily and safely get to with just a paper towel (just trying to get at the worst of it, I didn't have any compressed air or access to a vacuum or anything like that). I removed my video card to clean it's fan as well. I then put everything back together and set it up on my new desk.

Everything turned on fine, but every 5 minutes or so the computer hangs for 1-2 seconds, the sound gets "stretched" out (only way I can describe it, basically ends up being a loud obnoxious noise). This happens no matter what I'm doing -- when I'm just listening to iTunes, it happens very consistently just about once every song, and while playing Age of Empires 2 HD (not exactly a strenuous game for my computer) it still happens very consistently.

It's so brief that I'm not sure if I would even notice it if it wasn't for the noise. I'm at work so I can't provide exact hardware details right now, but do any obvious items of advice come to mind? I obviously think I messed something up while cleaning my computer. Have I irreparably ruined my home build? Is there a chance I just didn't plug the video card back in right or something silly?

My hard drive? Really? Can I get a second opinion on this?

Last night I watched my computer with the task manager performance window open. When the freeze happens, CPU Usage jumps very very briefly to around 22% from its normal 0-3%. The jump is so quick that it doesn't even appear on the graph. Any other suggestions?

As u say the perfomance jumps to 22% i suppose check the process tab on the task manager and see if u have any unwanted process running on the backend
Hope this Helps !
