Hi there

This is a bit of a follow up thread, to my previous one: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1956938/ethernet-cable-connected-internet.html

I bought a Wireless USB adapter for my Desktop (Netgear N300 Wireless Mini USB Adapter (WNA3100M) and the signal is very poor most of the time (2-3 bars), (speed usually between 18 and 24 Mbps) and I often lose the connection, with either a yellow triangle with exclamation point over the connection, or by showing no signal, but I can access the internet shortly after.

At first I thought the problem was the USB adapter itself, but I tried using the very same adapter on my laptop, from the EXACT spot, and it's actually better than the built in network adapter, I have full signal and the speed is at 36 Mbps.

So what exactly is wrong here? Are my USB ports on my Desktop not getting enough power for the adapter?
My setup is over 4 years old (from November 2009):
CPU: Phenom II x4 965
RAM: 4GB DDR3 CL7
GFX: 5850 CF
MB: GA-MA790XT-UD4P
HDD: WD Black WD1502FAEX 1.5TB
PSU: Corsair TX650W

Everything else on my PC works as it should, and it still delivers a great gaming performance. So I really hope to keep it while longer :)

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, and the copy is apparently not genuine, bought from a dude in fall of 2012, and it worked until I Christmas 2013 when I gave my CD drive power again, when I installed the wireless driver.

Please help me.
