Upgrading Tower for Gaming. Rome II, Shogun, Planet Side 2, CS: Source

Hey Everyone, I've grown tired of my console and decided to get back to games like rome II, shogun, CS: Source and would like to play planet side 2. I have a HP Pavilion p7-1119 (link to specs http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03070781#N208). I've seen a lot of confusion about installing new graphics cards on the IPISB-CU (Carmel2) on forums and was wondering if upgrading the motherboard is worth while. So what would be the best route to a lag free quality picture. Would like to keep it under 600, Let me know if i'm delusional.

  1. Like a lot of prebuilts, there is a lot of options, so you'll need to check which CPU is installed first, CS is a very undemanding game generally but games like Shogun need a lot more CPU punch than the stock Pentium can really provide.
Whatever you decide it's almost certain a better power supply will be required, look for 500-550Watts from a decent maker like: Corsair, Antec, Silverstone, Seasonic, XFX, EVGA or FSP since the case looks small I'd suggest you go for a modular design but dual PCI-E leads will probably be a must have.
If you're not too bothered about the eye candy the HD7750/GTX650 or R7 260 should all fit and run off the existing power supply (as long as the version you choose needs no extra 6 pin PCI-E power lead to run).
