Cleaning cpu and heatsink

Hi. Want to ask if i can clean cpu from thermal paste with 60 percent alcohol. I don't have isopropyl and i'm not sure if i can buy it here actually.

Is it a 60% Isopropyl Alcohol solution? Check the active ingredients. What kind of Alcohol is it exactly?

You shouldn't run into any problems using a diluted alcohol solution. Just take your time and make sure that the surface is clean. Just remember to use a microfiber cloth, not paper towel or something cotton.

That said, higher concentrations can't hurt. Keep an eye out for ~90% solutions in the future.

Now that's tricky. I've read that Ethanol based alcohols actually affect the metal of the CPU/Heatsink (which is VERY BAD). I'm not sure how reliable that information was, but to be extra safe, wait and get your hands on isopropyl alcohol. Better safe than sorry, eh?

Other than that, I don't have a good enough grasp on the chemistry to give you any more help with this.
