What are the main benefits of having a SSD over a regular HD? What does this improve? What are some good brands for a decent price?

I am currently running a WD 500GB HD (WD5000AAKS) what do you think about this?

Read write speeds that will let the computer start quicker and load all installed programs quicker as well, Samsung and Intel are the most popular and reliable drives.

I personally have Kingston 120GB SSD AND 1TB HDD , SDD just makes my Windows boot within few seconds, its also very quiet as it has no moving parts, and SSD will probably last longer as-well, they are much much better than standard HDD`s in my opinion!
