My cpu or HDD is going bad? I have a PC that is around 4 years old. The specs of my old pc is a:
XClio windtunnel case
AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE cpu
Asus Crosshair III Formula mobo
A seagate hdd (From a older pc, salvaged part, SATA,7200 RPM)
Rosewill xtreme 850w psu
AMD Radeon 6750 (Two of them in xfire)

Now that was 6 months ago. It hasn't turned on since. I just replaced the motherboard in it with a Asus M5A78L-M LX Plus. I only have 1 graphics card it now.
But my system just isn't running smooth. I've tried reformatting and installing windows 7 again. I know the graphics card, psu, and mobo are good. I've run many hdd test, seatools, the windows test. Those both passed the hdd. I have run this CPU down to the ground... Stock heatsink. My case has little airflow. Unlocked and overclocked... Could my CPU be damaged and thats what is causing my computer to run so slow? It idle is at 45c...
The one thing I notice is when running minecraft, I freeze every few seconds.

Solution

This is definitely a hard disk issue. The freezing and choppiness is the old hard drive accessing data.

I'm impressed that it's lasting that long. I have one drive with close to that many operational hours on my media center, that one's a bit choppy too.

If you don't need huge space, an SSD would be a good choice. You will be blown away by their speed.

yeah, do whatever you'll get the best bang for your buck.

SSD = speed/pricey
HDD = Large/cheep
