Overclocking i7 3770k with ASRock H77 Pro-4 M

Hi there,

I've had a Radeon HD 7870 GPU for a while, but I only recently upgraded my CPU to an i7 and my motherboard to the H77 Pro-4 M in the hopes that I can game better with a greater FPS. Apparently, most i7's come pre-clocked at 3.9ghz, although mine is 3.5, and I'm not getting the FPS I should, judging from the benchmark videos I see on youtube.

I entered the UEFI utility (bios) for the H77 (not the Z77) and it has apparently has a lot less options than the Z77, and I have ZERO clue on how to overclock my CPU to 4.0 or even 4.5ghz. I've looked around all the settings, and I can't find anything. I've never overclocked a CPU, so if anyone can please help me, that'd be great. I just don't get the FPS I should be (eg, I have to run BF4 at lowest settings and it still stutters a little)

Thanks.

  1. That's because, as you mentioned, you have a lot less options. You can't OC with an H77 motherboard.

So, am I unable to overclock what-so-ever?
Also, I'm getting about 40-45 fps on Ultra on BF3, and I have zero idea whether this is normal. I'll soon be getting a 780ti, but I don't want to have the same problems as I do now.

Don't worry, you won't need to overclock. The CPU won't bottleneck the GPU and you won't have any problem playing any game you want at 1080p

    Thanks.

After an hour or two of looking for FPS-gaining solutions, I OC'ed my GPU a little and now I'm getting a solid 60 FPS on high BF4 settings, so I'm more than happy :)

60 FPS with a 7870 on high in BF4? That's strange. Are you using Mantle?
  6. Nope, is that higher than usual?
