same problem here... i can't open desktop icons and i can't open my documents. i am unable to install exe programs but i was able to download it. the only way that i can go to the programs i downloaded is using the start up button. i can go to all of the folders but cannot open it. tried to use right click but still it wont work. if i will open the program it will only show that its loading but nothing happens until you will decide to close the window. tried a lot of things tried using the cmd, regedit, gepedit.exe, that dougknox but seems nothing working on me. please give me an alternative solutions on this. one problem is my flash player is crashing. once you go to a website that needs a flash player it will give you an error like shockwave blah blah blah. continue or stop plug in and it will freeze until you decided to click stop plug in. please help anyone?

Ive been through the same problem of yours when i cant open and download .exe files, i figured out that this problem is because of VIRUS, i suggest you have to perform a deep virus scan, it worked for me, and im sure it will work for you too, this maybe a solution for you desktop icons problem too.
now, in your flash player crashing, the common cause in this problem is the conflict between among multiple Flash installations, this instance happen when you have multiple browsers with own flash. there's a lot of procedure on how to fix it, but for me, i suggest you to re install the browsers to get rid of the problem.
