New graphics card or faster processor?

I'm looking to get a new graphics card to play games like Skyrim on highest graphics settings. However, I'm not completely sure my processor will support anything too much nicer, or if maybe a new processor would be a better choice. Here's what I have right now:

Processor: AMD FX-4170 Quad-Core
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 series
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3
64-bit Windows 7
Monitor resolution: 1920x1080

Any advice is appreciated!

Edit: any advice on what graphics card would be best? or will getting something top-of-the-line still not be restricted by my processor?

If its an upgrade to focus on gaming, i would go with the GPU.
It only makes sense to put your money towards what will be doing most of the heavy lifting.
If you want more juice out of your 4170, try a small overclock, and see if you can get an extra frame or two out of it.

I updated the op to include monitor resolution: 1920x1080

Like I said, I'm looking for something that will let me play Skyrim on highest settings, and probably also Guild Wars 2 with SweetFX running with max settings (but I think Skyrim might be the more intense of the two).
