4GB of RAM usage on Idle

Hello all.

I have recently been using my PC, which I built about 5 months ago, and noticed that it's been taking it's time to start up, loading things slower, the whole shebang.

I know this is definitely not a HDD problem or virus problem from the scanning I did, and plus nothing harmful is found since I usually check before installing.

I have been noticing that after the computer runs for about an hour or two, the ram usage just starts to go up. It used to (usually) idles on the desktop with the minor (no more than 500mb worth of ram usage from add-ons) background processes at ~2 - 2.1 GB, which definitely is not strange from what I understand. However after about the hour or so, it idles at 4-4.2GB, which is not making sense.

I have 8GB (2x4GB) 1866 Corsair Vengeance RAM, a 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD, and a i5-3570k @ 4.6 Ghz and a bus speed of 100 Mhz.

Considering these components, I don't see how it should now take applications (even just a web brower [chrome]) to open in more 5 seconds.

If anyone can help, this would be great. ^_^
