Hard drive error and freezing

Ok so i have a internal hard drive and every time i open it it freezes my computer the only way i can un freeze it is by unplugging it and everytime i try to use my anit virus software it freezes also please help

Use a boot disk to test your harddrive outside of your windows OS.
For a linux boot disk check out The Ultimate Boot CD or Hirens boot disk.

Both feature many useful software tools. I know Hirens has a few Antivirus programs on it.
