I had this issue just yesterday. I already did, defragmentation, cleaning the registry used up some maintenance utility program. Still it persists, what does this mean? I even used chkdsk on both partition with both the options checked and it says everything is fine no bad sectors or anything. What is the problem?

I'm not sure what to believe on the two the one on the boot up and on the windows warning box or the chkdsk logs?

Solution
SMART (Self Test & Monitoring Analysis) monitors the actual hard drive's operation, whereas chkdsk only analyses the data on it.
Do not ignore the warning as the drive could fail at any time. Back up your data and get it replaced asap.

I'm afraid I did ignore the warning for several weeks. F1 got me in , but now I get nothing and wonder what the next step should be. My pictures were only partially backed up. I am sick with this loss. Is there any alternative?
