Hello all, I'm new here and just needed some advice on building this computer. I have never built a computer before and have been teaching myself the basics of building a rig but now that I have all the parts in one place I'd like some help on optimization. My budget is 1,500 $ and so far with the components I picked I'm a few hundred dollars under budget. The computer will be strictly used for gaming at high/Ultra settings.

Case: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO 99$

Processor: Intel Core i5 4670 Haswell 3.4hz Lga 1150 84W(Could use help deciding if an i3 could be used to cut down on cost and get an even better gpu or maybe some more ram/memory) - 219.99$

Motherboard: Asrock Fatal1ty z87 Killer Lga 1150 intel Z87 HDMI SAT gas USB 3.0 AtX. (Supposedly a gaming motherboard, and reading the info on the site amped me up for how amazing this card is supposed to be but I'd appreciate it if anyone can tell me if it really is this amazing -http://www.asrock.com/microsite/Fatal1tyKiller/Fatal1ty%20Z87%20Killer.html - 124.99

SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 2.5 12g SAT 3- 89.99$

HD/Ram: WD Black series
1tb 7200 rpm 64MB cache SATA 6.0gbs 3.5 internal hd - G.Skill sniper series 8gb(2x4gb) 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866(Pc3 14900) Bought together saved 25 bucks. Total 158.98$

Asus optical drive 18.99$

Cooler Master i700- 700W Power supply with 80 plus bronze cert 69.99

And finally the big shebang

XFX Radeon R9 290 4gb 512 bit GDDR5 599.00$

I'll take any suggestions that you experts have too offer. If there's anything I could do better for about the same price please let me know. Thx

Solution

yeah it would be, i think the only real way to justify that 290 is 2 monitors eye finity with 14K resolution or higher.

the i3 is has 2 cores, idk about HT if its even on that but its not even helpful for gaming, sometimes it makes games worse. anyways dual core is fine for browsing the web and listening to your itunes, but for serious gaming 4 strong intel cores is bomb. Idk how development will go, and optimization around FX chips has been talked about, i,e battlefield (some people think its scandalous in some way, making the game desinged to run better on AMD blah blah). for now and at least a couple more years 4 highly clocked intel cores will be great for gaming, and it surely can keep up with the 290, while the i3 would bottleneck like a mother

Ohh good point. With the os I'm at my budget cap so all I need to know now basically is will this set up work as well as I think its going to? Playing games at ultra settings and such.

corsair is a great brand, but their CX series PSU's are known for being one of their lesser quality lines of PSUs. to ensure longevity of build and being able to run it at around 50% load i would recommend a better quality (Corsair TX or XFX or Seasonic) 650W.
