Will this make my computer render faster?

Hi. I am not the best with electronics. So I am asking for some advice. I have a Sony Vaio laptop with an intel core i7 q740 1.73ghz , currently 4Gb of Ram, and my hard drive is a Hitachi HTS725050A9A360 (500GB), plus I have NVidia Gefore 310M with Cuda(whatever that means).

This is my problem. I will make a really cool animation that is 90 seconds long, and it will take over 400 hours to render it. Granted.. each frame has about 3/4s of a billion polygons. However.. I am rendering at a low resolution of 740X480, or something close to that. I plan on upgrading so I can render in HD. And if it takes 400+ hours to render 90 seconds at suck a low res. then it will take months to render in HD.

So, I was thinking that I can put in 8GB of RAM (my system will accept that). And I was thinking of swapping out the hard drive for a WD Blue HDD 1 TB SATA-600.
The terabyte sounds nice!

From what I heard, I can't swap out my graphics card, because its a laptop, and its probably soldered in there. That really sucks.. but I don't think its very great.

Will these upgrades be worth it?
Or is it a futile attempt because I can't change my graphics card?

Or will this be good?

And are there other things I can do to make it better?

Or... again.. am I being stupid?

I just don't know.
All I want to do is make some cool art, and I don't want to waste any more money being stupid. But I really don't have a budget.. so I am trying to make this computer work.

Any advice will be great.
And I apologize in advance for any stupidity that I may have already displayed.
Thanks.

Thanks
Any suggestions on the desktop?

I figure, if I know what to get, I can save my money and maybe later this year I can buy it.

Really looking to get that final computer.
Something that would be able to take upgrades easily when better stuff comes out in the future.
And definitely something that can handle some intense animation rendering.
